Questions people ask

How do I work out my electricity bill?

kWh used × price per kWh, plus any daily standing charge, plus tax if your price excludes it.

How much does an appliance cost to run?

Watts ÷ 1,000 × hours used × price per kWh. A 2,000 W heater for 4 hours a day at 25p is about £61 a month.

What is a standing charge?

A fixed daily charge for your connection, paid however little you use. UK suppliers charge one; many US utilities have a monthly customer charge instead.
