Questions people ask
How much pension tax relief can I get?
Relief at your highest income tax rate, 20% or 40%, on contributions up to a percentage of your earnings that rises with age: 15% under 30 up to 40% from 60. Earnings above €115,000 don’t count.
Do I save USC and PRSI too?
No. Pension contributions reduce income tax only; USC and PRSI are charged on your full pay.
How do I claim it?
Through payroll, contributions to a workplace pension are taken before tax automatically. For a PRSA or personal pension, claim through myAccount or your tax return, and you can backdate a payment made by 31 October to the year before.
