Questions people ask
How is zakat worked out?
2.5% of zakatable wealth (cash, gold and silver, investments, business stock and money owed to you, less debts due now) held for a lunar year, if it is above the nisab.
What is the nisab?
The minimum wealth before zakat is due: the value of 85 g of gold or 595 g of silver. The silver nisab is much lower, so more people pay.
Is my home or car included?
No. Personal-use items like your home, car and everyday jewellery (in some schools) are not zakatable.
