Questions people ask
What changed on 1 April 2026?
The default KiwiSaver rate rose from 3% to 3.5% for employees and employers, and the ACC earners’ levy went from 1.67% to 1.75%. On NZ$80,000 the KiwiSaver change takes about NZ$15 more a fortnight into your savings. Income tax rates did not change.
Do I get the independent earner tax credit?
If you earn between NZ$24,000 and NZ$70,000, are not on Working for Families, a main benefit or NZ Super, you get up to NZ$520 a year. This calculator includes it when you qualify on income.
Can I go back to 3% KiwiSaver?
Yes. You can apply to Inland Revenue for a temporary rate reduction to 3% for 3 to 12 months. Your employer may then also drop to 3%.
