Where do these rates come from?
The European Central Bank publishes reference rates for about 30 currencies each working day at around 16:00 Central European Time. These are from 6 Nov 2026. The UAE dirham is worked out from its fixed peg of 3.6725 to the US dollar.
Why does my bank give me less?
These are mid-market rates, halfway between buying and selling. Banks, airports and card providers add a margin to the rate, often 2% to 5%, plus any fees.
